The Spouses Chapter is a National Chapter within Military Families Speak Out (MFSO). All members of MFSO whose spouse, fiancé, or partner are currently in the military or served in the military since the buildup to the Iraq war in the fall of 2002 are eligible to join this chapter. Membership is open to all “spouses” regardless of the branch of service or status service (Active Duty, Reserve, Guard, Individual ready Reserve) of their loved ones.
Since military spouses' needs (medical, psychological, financial, etc.) are often tied to the military it can be especially difficult for them to speak out. While MFSO has a significant number of spouses counted among the membership, the majority of the organization's loudest and most visible voices have been parents. This chapter hopes to encourage greater participation and membership among military spouses. To that end we are developing a variety of ways to encourage military spouses to feel comfortable speaking out and fighting for their needs and those of their military loved ones.
